There are plenty of problems that we need to fix
And our elected officials continue to fail
To provide us with any real solutions.

I'm a huge supporter of our local government creating more bike/scooter lanes on our current streets. In cities like Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) a city of 8 million people are on the moved each and every single day because they all are on bikes/scooters (cars are still rare in that country). Unlike metropolitan Los Angeles, a small city in comparison with only 3 million people, we are stuck in gridlock traffic every single day, sucking up millions of gallons each year as we inch our way through traffic.
Our dependency on foreign oil can substantially decrease if such cities provided individual lanes for bikes/scooters where automobiles can not drive on, such as a sidewalks are designed for pedestrians and not automobiles. This will encourage many to try bikes/scooters as an alternative mode of transportation without them feeling they are jeopordizing their safety and well being, (nobody want to try a scooter if they will get run over by an SUV).
This will encourage many more to use the bike/scooter to perform daily task, going to work each day by yourself (the scooter is great for going to work because you don't get sweaty unlike a bike), going around the corner to get some beer, etc. and the automobile can be use for weekend trips or long distance commute.
Imagine if 50% of American used a scooter 3-5 days a week vs the automobile to perform basic daily errands. That will equate to billions of gallons of gasoline per year and substantially decrease traffic gridlock in all our cities.
This is a simple and cost effective solution that will create immediate results without comprising the way Americans live. Any thoughts?
