The Civil War (directed By Ken Burns, 1991)
The Civil War is a pivotal event in US politics and history. This acclaimed mini-series, directed by Ken Burns, is the highest rated PBS series in history. Burns traces the war from the abolitionist movement through reconstruction. 
 
Jackie: Behind the Myth (1999)
This PBS produced biography of America's best-known first lady, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, uses photographs, newsreels, interviews, and excerpts from her own writings. 
 
 
M*A*S*H (1972-1973)
Robert Altman's M*A*S*H married comedy and war and made a political statement in the process. The show is loosely based on a real-life MASH unit stationed in Korea in 1950. Stars Alan Alda, Wayne Rogers, McLean Stevenson, Jamie Farr and Loretta Swit. This first season set (three discs) contains 24 uncut episodes.

 

Nova - Hurricane Katrina: The Storm that Drowned a City (2006)
This NOVA begins the year before Katrina devastated New Orleans, as scientists model the potential destruction such a storm could wreck on the region. Contains footage of the hurricane as well as computer graphics showing how the levees failed. The film pointing political fingers.
 
Nova - Origins (2004)
Beliefs about the origin of life are at the center of much of America's political conflict. This four-hour NOVA mini-series explores the beginnings of the universe and moves on to the formation of our solar system and life on Earth. The show is hosted by Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History.

 

Politically Correct: A Special Visit With Camille Paglia (1996)
This ABC political show with an attitude (of humor) blazed a trail followed by The Daily Show. Bill Maher hosts; crew includes Travis Davis, Al Franken and Chris Rock. This show features guest Camille Paglia, professor of humanities and media studies at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. VHS.

  

West Wing (1999-2005)
Martin Sheen stars as President of the United States in this White House drama. Other actors include Rob Lowe, Stockard Channing, and Moira Kelly. This is the complete seven-season set.
